Kenya Josiah
b.1994, based in London.
Kenya Josiah is a figurative artist, that uses acrylic paint as her main from of creative expression. Kenya’s work is rooted in the diversity of Black womanhood and the beauty in narratives that have often been overlooked in society.

She believes that our traditions and customs can be seen as a weave made of the material, artistic and spiritual expression explored by a human group. Through her art, she often explores particular practices, central to Black culture, as she believes that this is how we identify ourselves and differentiate ourselves from others. In this way, she intents to help preserve her cultural values, history and identity. In her work she celebrates food, dance, music, and many other things, heightening the beauty in these traditions.

Kenya's work depicts the rich colours of the Caribbean reflecting her Jamaican and Guyanese heritage. She is hugely influenced by handwoven textiles, nature and Brazilian naive art. She intends for each painting to be a celebration of culture.
